A Stop And Think Moment

Today I had a "Stop and think" moment.

I published a post way back in October 2009. I had forgot all about it, actually.

The post discussed mental health, and the stigma still attached to it, even in our "enlightened" times. Click here to read that post.

Today a strange thing happened. A fellow blogger had been reading through my blog and came across that post. She commented on it. Then another person commented on it. And then another.

These special people gave me my "Stop and think" moment.

It really brought home to me -

1.

How privileged I am to be a nurse, and to help care for, and educate, people. Especially when they are at their most vulnerable.

2.

How privileged I am to have this blog. It is easy to forget how little old me, sitting at my laptop, can affect so many people's lives.

I aim for this blog to be a pleasant mix of my life events, my thoughts and insights, and of my humour. I make a point of never getting "too heavy". But I do know that life does get heavy, for me, and for you guys reading this.

So, I wonder...

If anyone, reading this, would like me to write a post about an illness, condition, or anything health related, leave a comment.

I am not an expert on the whole encompassing human condition, but if it is within my scope, or if I can source the information for you, I will.

I would be happy to write a post to educate and inform, or even simply to help highlight and increase awareness of something you care about.

What do you think?

I think it's a wonderful idea. There are so many forms of "mental illness". And I use quotes because so many people do not understand that some of these are actually physical, it just effects the mind.

Depression/anxiety disorder and the panic attacks? A chemical imbalance. Hereditary for some. Me.

David this is a great topic for blogging.

One of our dearest blog friends has fought so hard to try and get control of her life back and she is now MIA for months.

We know her family is actively seeking help for her and we have to trust their judgment as they are the ones who live with her but it is very hard for those of us grew to love her in our daily interactions with her on her site and ours. No one rallies behind someone more than a group of bloggers.

Anything you could write that might help our understanding of the struggles people with these illnesses and their families try to cope would be greatly appreciated.
