The UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, has had an "oops" moment.
After speaking to a member of the public recently, Brown climbed into his car, forgot to turn off his mic, and began to comment about the woman, Gillian Duffy.
The lady had discussed issues such as immigration and national debt with the Prime Minister. He had responded in an open and friendly manner. That all changed, of course, once he waved goodbye and thought he was out of ear shot of the general public. Brown stated the woman was a "bigot" and that the whole interaction was a "disaster".
As a British man, I am embarrassed by this. I am aware that the world of politics is not an arena of light and joy, but I do expect British "leaders" to conduct themselves in a more professional and respectful manner.
The lady in question was a long term supporter of Gordon Brown's political party. She was one of those, whose shoulders Brown has climbed upon. How rude!
Brown has now shown himself to be the opposite of what he should be. He should stand for such ideals as integrity, honesty and respect.
What struck me most was that, more than anything, it seemed he was most concerned with how it all looked, and how the press would "run with it".
The actual issues discussed were not relevant. Gillian Duffy, the person, was not relevant. The interaction with a paid up member of his party, was not relevant. What mattered most to Brown, was how he came across.
The days of British politics having any sort of substance have gone.
I believe there is an election in the UK fast approaching. What chance does Brown have following this display of arrogant, abhorrent behaviour? Not much, I'd say.
I have posted the videos below from YouTube, hopefully giving you a good idea of what has taken place.
Oh dear!

They are all liars and cads, if you ask me. Though some less so than others. It's kind of funny for him to be caught with his foot in his mouth. Might teach him a little humility.
Oh man..politic intrigue and disgust me. Wish there was a make to make it work for the people again. UGH!
I'm surprised your surprised. ALL politicians are the same...no matter what country or city they're in charge of. That's why it's called politics...
That's why people have lost faith in politicians.

I read this in the news. Hadn't caught any of the videos, though, thanks for posting those. That was quite a slip-up on Brown's part, and in the minds of decent-minded voters, he's lost the election already.
It's a shame politicians these days don't really feel genuinely sorry; negative image in the press is all they're remorseful about.
You needn't worry about the British image, though. I think Richard M. Nixon still holds the record for grossest misconduct by a politician. Unless you count Lyndon B. Johnson flashing a crowd of reporters...
Wow. Oops. I think you are right. He doesn't care. What I don't understand is what the big deal was...so she asked him a question. She was respectful. Me thinks he is a typical politician..a pompous ass.
Politicians and used car sales people...I put them in the same boat.

Sad! I guess it just shows that we all show our 'true colors' when we think no one is watching-too bad his true colors aren't very flattering :)
What excellent videos of an unfortunate gaffe! I suppose we're all guilty of the snide aside at times but we expect our leaders to do better.
Thanks for following me.
why do i love it when political figures put their foot in their mouths so so damn much?!
