Magical Thinking - Guilty As Charged

A good friend gave me literature and toys for the cats. Well, literature for me, pertaining to the cats.

The toys were for the cats.

This is the friend who also gave me the inspiration to try and harness train my cats. That project hasn't been as successful as I would have liked it to be, but this friend has a lot of good cat related ideas.

So, with me getting in from work, I had the toys whipped out in 2 minutes. There is a "fake snake" with an aboriginal - esque design, and several balls that jingle and chime when they move. The balls have lots of slits, and a bell in the centre.

The cats were not too taken with the snake (although I think it's pretty), but they love the balls.

They raced all over the house playing some game, that only the three feline members of my family are privy to, having much fun and frollics. They almost destroyed my house, but their joy is worth this small price (!).

The evening eased into night, and it was time to retire to bed.

I went into the ensuite and began brushing my teeth. I had to do this by the light of the bedroom, as the ensuite light isn't working. Sam had changed the bulb, but it still isn't working. We have no idea, currently, why it's not working, as all the other lights are A-Okay.

So, there I am, in the semi-dark of the ensuite, when I hear it.

There is a low, almost muffled breathing. It isn't me. It isn't Sam.

Then it gets louder.

I think to myself, "Oh, here we go. Ghosts, again!"

What else could I think? The light is mysteriously not working, and now I hear the ghost breathing.

That was my first thought. I am very guilty of magical thinking. Sometimes it can be a guilty pleasure, but guilty nonetheless.

Upon thorough investigation, I found CC under the bed, with one of the afore mentioned cat toys. She had a ball in her mouth. As she breathed, the air was being forced in and out of the ball, via the slits, creating a Darth Vader effect.

I am glad it wasn't a ghost! I really should learn not to jump to conclusions.

I love magical thinking, especially in literature. I wrote a book with magical realism, about how people use magical thinking to grieve.

Don't you just love cats? Mine is kind of old now and rarely does funny things like than anymore. Love the Darth Vader breathing, lol.

I think a ghost would be fun.
We have 'shadows' that I see. I'm figuring/hoping/fantasizing it's a ghost.

Yes Mary, I can see the benefits of magical thinking in difficult times.

Mrs D, would you get another one?

Greg, it probably is a ghost. Have you tried speaking to it?

Bunny, I think you have to believe in them...they believe in you...

Momma, that might be just the best idea ever! Why not?!

LOL... this is awesome! Aren't the kitties the BEST when you have an (over)active imagination? I live alone and my cat freaks me out almost daily!!!
