I returned on Tuesday as I had had my full ( HUGE ) 3 day course of antibiotics, and felt no improvement.
I had went to work on Monday, but really better judgement would have told me not to. I made it through the full day, but my body was clearly in crisis, as I perspired all day, and often found myself struggling to breathe.
So, on Tuesday, doctor reviewed me. I was given a further course of antibiotics, and some steroids too.
Doctor diagnosed me with pleurisy, which is simply inflammation of the tissue surrounding my lungs.
It resulted in response to my chest infection, and the implication is that I may now have asthma. Asthma! In addition to possibly having diabetes. Oh, and I am not sure if I mentioned my raised level of uric acid which suggests I may develop gout. Ugh!
I am such a healthy specimen.
So my course of action is to throw everything I can think of at my chest infection.
Rest.
Vitamin D.

Echinacea.
Ventolin inhaler.
Vic's Vapor Rub.
Eucalyptus oil steamed in a bowl of boiled water, inhaled with a towel over my head.
Codiene ( in the form of panadiene / cocodamol ) to suppress my painful cough, and ease my aching muscles.
Senega and Ammonia to break up mucus.
Fresh fruit, such as strawberries and oranges.
Manuka Honey.
This last one was a suggestion someone made today. I have, of course, heard of the health benefits of honey before. I have used wound dressing impregnated with it, as it has been shown to be effective against even the likes of MRSA (the well known super bug).
Manuka is found in New Zealand, and has a reputation for being more effective than any other type of honey, for ailments as varied as eczema, gastric upset, stomach ulcers and open wounds. And of course colds and flu's. It is deemed by some to be a general immune system booster. Well what had I to lose?
Oh yeah! $45!!
For a tiny tub. BUT if it means I can breathe easy again, it will be worth it.
You can apparently take it in a variety of forms and methods, but I have decided to use it to sweeten some hot milk. A very pleasant drink it makes too.
I also got a book from the local library (well, several books actually, as being off work can be boring!) all about the power of Reiki. Like I said, everything is worth trying! I will keep you updated as to how I progress. Surely something is bound to help.
Any suggestions?

I've had pleurisy, not fun. Good luck, get well soon.
I've had pleurisy more times than I care to admit. Once an infection gets in my lungs, I need liquid codeine to keep the cooties to a minimum. Try to rest. Try a mix of honey and vinegar. Like a little spoonful of each.
Hey pal, you seem to be having a right ole time of it!
The Manuka is popular in this house for all us singers, we make a drink of it with hot water and ginger. (Allow to cool before drinking.)
A wee dram wouldn't either!
Hope ya feel better soon. :¬)
Thanks guys. I am starting to feel a bit better. It isn't as painful to breathe now as it was, and I don't crackle as much now when I breathe either.
I can also, almost, lie down to sleep now, without feeling like I am drowning.
Your health really is the most valuable commodity you have.
Mapstew, a wee dram would go down really easily just now.
ETW, does it take you long to get over it? I think I have had for about 2 weeks now.
