Carols By Candlelight

Just when I thought there was nothing that could make it feel like Christmas in Adelaide in December...we witnessed some Christmas magic last night.

This is the 66th year Carols By Candlelight has been hosted here.

A delightful display of music and singing was produced in Elder Park, by the River Torrens, for all to appreciate and enjoy.

Most people, and there were a lot of people, had brought blankets and chairs. We were not very well prepared as we hadn't been before, but we found a small area and sat on a small grassy slope. We didn't need chairs. A blanket would have been nice though. I still can't believe how cold it has been in recent days, considering this is Summer in Oz. Rain threatened to pour down at times, but never fully delivered, thankfully.

Lovers, friends and families huddled close together for warmth. I watched as everyone waved their novelty electric candles. It was so pretty. Different coloured lights blinked and winked across the crowd, like a blanket made of Christmas lights on a dark sea.

There were some exceptional talents sharing their gifts in the spirit of the season. My favourites included Hannah Greenshields, Silvie Paladino and of course the amazing Jessica Mauboy!

Jessica was particularly charming. I assumed that a star of her calibre would sing a song and go, but she sang four. Wonderful value! At one point she requested lyrics, and laughed as she explained she was human and forgetting what she was going to sing was without shame. She was very natural and endearing. Also, what a bonus to have a big star actually sing live!

Here are some videos so I can share with you the talent I was witness to last night.

I'm so lucky to be living here, in the City Of Churches!
