Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek And Slide!

One of Australia's most famous health campaigns, launched in 1981, is -

Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide

To reduce the chance of skin cancer it is suggested you slip on a t-shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat, seek some shade and slide on a pair of sunglasses.

I went to the beach yesterday and forgot this wise advice. I was only there for maybe an hour, and for the most part I did have sunglasses and a hat on. But, as the pictures below show, the Aussie Sun is very strong, and people can burn in no time at all.

White fingers, but red hand and arm...red is not my colour.

So last night, and today, I have been applying aloe after-sun spray, taking pain killers, drinking lots of water (keeping myself hydrated) and taking cold showers, all in an attempt to soothe and ease the pain. I have even been soaking towels in cold water and just laying them over me.

I hope my sun burn has eased considerably for tomorrow, so I can really enjoy Christmas. It is safe to say I have really learned my lesson, and will not be under-estimating the strength of the Sun down under any time soon.

Where ever you may be in the world, it is worth being mindful of "Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek and Slide".

Look after yourself and your skin. Don't be as silly as me. Keep safe and "Happy Holidays!".

ooo that's the worse. I feel for you. The texas sun can be pretty brutal as well.
