Why does day old chicken curry taste better than when it is freshly made?
Anyway, hope you are well this Sunday evening. Another cold day here in Adelaide.
The last hour or so has been fairly challenging, I don’t mind telling you. With the aim of preparing myself a meal (see above), I toddled off to the kitchen. I almost died! I slipped. I managed to keep on my feet, miracle of miracles. Somebody…had spilled what I think was stock.
I cleaned up the mess, put some bags out in the garbage bin and remembered I had a washing to put on. This then reminded me I had some washing still to bring in. Sam had hung out the washing on the line in a very efficient manner. So efficient, in fact, that I was sure at one point 3 towels were being held up by the one peg.
I doubt anyone with a below average IQ could have managed removing the items from the washing line without any one item dropping on the ground.
This was followed by me putting the next load on, but being quick to ensure I made eye contact with each of my 3 cats first. You hear awful stories about cats and household chores not mixing well.
Then, after almost being burned by over (re-) heated curry, I finally sat down to see $ Weddings And A Funeral was on, just at the point of the funeral. Typical. And deeply sad.
Choosing the curry wasn’t an easy activity either, I’d like to add. The house is full with food. The last few days have seen us both cook and prepare various dishes. Last week Sam had made some lovely cheesecake, and a caramel-rivita slice. Then there was curry. Then there was mince (which now predominantly features in the freezer). Then there was cream of potato and leek soup (explains the stock on the floor). Add to that the potential for some sausage and bacon snacks, wrapped with puff pastry…And these are just the beginning.
Perhaps we should open a cafe, or the like. It was an idea a few years ago, going into business in the world of catering. But here in Adelaide, there are such venues everywhere you go. Too much competition. But we do know food.
I’d love to be my own boss. I hope one day to be able to live from the proceeds of writing. “Writer” sounds more romantic than “cook”, doesn’t it.
