We had heard only good things about this show, for years! Only now have we had the chance to actually see it.
And it was as WOW as ever a WOW there was.
Are you familiar with "The Wizard Of Oz"? How could you not be? It is a magical film that introduced the world to Judy Garland (mother of Liza Minnelli), in the story of Dorothy, Toto and many other wonderous characters, including the Wicked Witch Of The West.
The film was released in 1939, following the novel "The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz", written by L. Frank Baum, published in 1900.
"Wicked" gives audiences the world over a glimpse of the Wicked Witch's life before Dorothy crossed paths with her.
We are shown a more fully developed character, in regards to Elphaba, the "wicked" witch, and a whole other dimension to the world of Oz is revealed. I don't mind saying that I now see Elphaba as one of the warmest and most genuine people in fantastical fiction. See the show and tell me I'm wrong!
She was a victim of circumstance and of devious peoples' dark agendas, an otherwise champion of the people, if only she had had the opportunity!
If you have seen it, let me know what you thought of it. We loved it. In fact, when Elphaba sang "Defying Gravity", we both got goosebumps! Here is a video from YouTube, with the wonderful Idina Menzel (who famously performed in "Wicked" and also appeared in the superb "Glee") singing her version.
The lady playing Elphaba for the show we saw was equally wonderful! Indeed, the whole cast was really good, and I feel like bursting with joy at seeing such a great show delivered so exceptionally well! I overheard someone speaking in the queue beforehand, about a woman who had seen "Wicked" 100 times. I can't blame her!
Elphaba has now taken a place in my heart, and I will never watch "The Wizard Of Oz" in the same way ever again. My eyes have been opened.
Colour me green, and book me a holiday in The Emerald City!
I'm a friend of Dorothy and a fan of "Wicked"! Go figure!

I really really really really want to see Wicked. I'm sad I made it to NYC and didn't get to.
Miss Angie, you will get to see it! It took us a few years, but I doubt this show is going anywhere anytime soon.
And I assure you, it will be well worth the wait. x
