Although I live in Australia, I still try and keep up to date with what happens back home in the UK.
On Saturday 4th of June, the final of Britain’s Got Talent was broadcast. Jai McDowell won, and I’m proud to say he too is an Ayrshire man.
In fact, I went to school with his brother. It’s such a small world that we live in!
24 year old Jai, according to some online sources, was not the favourite to win, but his talent, coupled by the support of his fellow Scots, saw him take the £100,000 prize, and the opportunity to sing at the Royal Variety Performance. In the final Jai sang Josh Grobin’s To Where You Are, and was seen winning the show by an estimated 13 million viewers.
I’m sad I didn’t get to see the series, but have managed to catch a glimpse or two via the wonder that is YouTube.
So what’s next for Jai? Big things, I imagine. Interviews, record deals, appearances… One thing is for sure, nothing will be the same for him again.
And because of Jai McDowell, Ayrshire is again on the tips of tongues the world over.
Well done Jai!
