Betty and Barney Hill were, at one point, on the lips and minds of every person who ever looked to the skies and wondered.
50 years ago these "normal" and decent people became famous. One was a social worker, and the other worked for the U.S. Postal Service. From the articles I have read, they seemed to be upstanding citizens, unassuming and in every way unexceptional. That is, until they were abducted by aliens.
Their story began to surface through dreams, and later through sessions of hypnosis. The couple are often referenced as being the best example of a "typical" abduction case. Indeed, the movie "The UFO Incident" and the book "The Interrupted Journey", written by John G. Fuller, were inspired by the Hills' experiences.
But half a century on, where are we? With all the evidence and documented experiences of other alien contactees, there continues to be a definite lack of real proof that can testify 100% that aliens are visiting Earth.
When the "X-Files" TV show was popular, there was said to be an increase in such reports. Again there seems a small hum across the internet at the moment that due to extra-terrestrial related TV shows and movies ("Paul", "Cowboys And Aliens"), such reports are again on the increase. This would imply that people perhaps are either inspired to tell lies after watching such movies, or that somehow these movies are giving people the courage to "come forward". Utter nonsense!
However, there are, around the world, regular reports of sightings and contact, regardless of what has been on TV. It is ongoing. This phenomena can't solely be a result of over-active imaginations, or of box office successes.
Five decades after the Hill's shot to fame, we seem no closer to the truth.
However, we star children know what's out there...
