They are crying. Rocking. Shaking.
They have their hands raised and some are chanting. A woman is speaking in tongues, seemingly on demand.
Some children have red stickers sealing their mouths, with the word “LIFE” written on them. Their parents are with them, supporting their being gagged, supporting and encouraging their trembling and weeping.
This was what I saw when I tuned into “Sunday Best: Jesus Camp” on ABC2 last night. I still feel disturbed by it.
In America, there are camps where, seemingly, people are training children to be Evangelical Christians. To paraphrase a young girl from the show (a 2006 documentary), they are trained to be “Warriors of God”, and to “have no fear”. There is talk of their religion being under attack. For people practising a peaceful religion, they seemed overtly militant.
I watched as a woman stood in front of these young people, and told them that Satan was coming for them and that the things they did and said when with their friends were wrong and dirty. Kids being kids was wrong and dirty!
This woman, went on to say that Harry Potter, as a “warlock”, should be put to death, and was “against God”.
Really?
There was then a shot of a young girl talking about how there are “dead Churches” where God refuses to go, because the people there are not jumping up and down and are not shouting and pleading with God.
I thought God was everywhere and was everything. These children are being brainwashed into thinking a certain way, NOT in keeping with how I see the teachings of the Bible.
God and Government seemed to be a popular topic too. These children are going to be college students, may run for powerful political positions, and may one day influence and decide on the American Government’s actions and policies. Scary! Separation of Church and State means nothing to these people.
Hair on the back of my neck stood up when a man told a young boy that his life was a novel being written by God and proceeded to describe, not in my mind what God’s plan was, but what was the plan of these heinous people for this innocent boy’s life. He suggested that by the time this boy was in his twenties he would be spreading the word of God and carving out a new way of life in America. The boy is part of a key generation that will see Jesus return.
They then showed this same young boy talking about how when he was speaking to non-Christians, he felt “yucky” because he knew they were sick.
Hide the guns and bombs!
Watching this, my mind began to contemplate how, in the name of God, people were training children to be, what I fear will be the case, domestic terrorists. Evangelical Christians…a massacre waiting to happen!
Christian Post
Then I followed a link via Twitter, to an article at the American based The Christian Post.
“The Christian Post is a member of the Evangelical Press Association, a member of the National Association of Evangelicals, and a global partner of the World Evangelical Alliance.”
Notice the use of the word Evangelical? Yeah, I did too.
The article discusses same sex couples and how ”gays” really don’t want marriage. Why does the writer think gay couples don’t want marriage? Well, for one, we are all too busy having as much sex as our little sinful bodies will allow, to really want to commit to one person for the rest of our lives. Of course, we all know straight people never cheat on their partners and rarely ever have more than one sexual partner in a life time.
Poor little straight people! Maybe heterosexuals can get a special parking badge for their car, or a special social security benefit from the local government.

“Chuck”. He even looks kinda harmless. |
Chuck Colson (his name makes him sound quite innocuous, doesn’t it), suggests that there are two further myths that have led to people mistakenly thinking gays actually want marriage.
1. There is a huge demand. 2. It is a Civil Rights Movement.
Why are these myths? Well, there are “no queues of gays hoping for a marriage licence at any Town Halls” and there are “too few households headed by same sex married couples”.
The reason gays are not lined up at Town Halls and that there are too few married same sex couples…is because marriage is still illegal in most states in America! So, there are no marriage licences to queue for. There are not many married same sex couples because it is not legally recognised.
Oh, and the context of whether it is a civil rights movement or not does not rely on the numbers involved. What is implied here is that if there aren’t many people affected, those who are affected don’t deserve respect or dignity. One person alone still should receive acknowledgement of their inalienable rights as a human being!
Dear Chuck, you are a moron! Legalise same sex marriage and queues for those marriage licences will form!
Another article at The Christian Post discusses how Christians are facing prejudice. When some Christians seem to preach so much hate, no wonder. All this anti-gay propaganda, and the public should feel sorry for the hateful Christians?
Really?
Westboro Baptist Church
No talk of hateful Christians is ever complete without mention of the folks down at Westboro Baptist Church. They teach that God hates America, because America is full of “fags” and “fag-enablers”. I can feel the warm glow of love from here…
They were well known for waving their signs of hate and bigotry at the funerals of people who had died from AIDS related illnesses.
However, they became particularly famous for protesting at funerals of American soldiers, who died fighting for their country. Their message was that God had killed them because they were either fags or fag-enablers. I’m getting a feeling there is a pattern here.
Adelaide Preachers
Then my focus turns to local events.
In Adelaide, Evangelical Christians have been doing their thing in the city centre for several weeks now.
Making the local news, they preach negativity and hate, oh, and they also have an anti-gay message too. Yeah, I think there is definitely a pattern here.
?
Evangelical = Anti-gay
?
These preachers have been disturbing the peace in Rundle Mall, and are regularly arrested by police. Many businesses are reporting their takings are being affected by these preachers screaming at would be customers.
Many friends have told me of the preachers hurling insults at people, of them grabbing people by the shoulders and generally harassing folks.
Adelaide City Council are reported as looking into ways to legally ban the preachers as they are causing great upset among shoppers and business owners.
So “Christians” can spread bigoted anti-gay propaganda, picket at funerals and upset families of those who passed while serving their country, brainwash children to be militant faux religious preachers and harass the passing public in the street, but it is people like me who will burn in hell?
Really?
No, really?
I doubt it.
