Professions Dealing With Death

As a nurse I accept that I may, at any time, have someone die who is under my care. That is part of my job. I look after people who are unwell and who are vulnerable.

Many people accept death as being part of their job. Here is a list of professions, in no particular order, which involve, in some way, death and dying. Some might be obvious, others aren't.

  • Nurses
  • Funeral Director
  • Priest
  • Paramedic
  • Doctor
  • Police Officer
  • Soldier
  • Taxidermist
  • Embalmer
  • Grave Digger
  • Forensic Photographer
  • Obituary Writer
  • Fireman
  • Executioner
  • Social Worker
  • Lawyer
  • Psychiatrist
  • Counsellor
  • Crime Scene Cleaners
  • Farmer
  • Insurance Case Officer
  • Florist
  • Musician
  • Caterer
  • Prison Guard
And many, many more.

I suppose the point I am making is that death touches more people, even on a daily basis as part of their employment, than you might realise.
