Wednesday Morning Trauma For A Star Child

My life....Where do I start?

I don't know if I am really unlucky, or really lucky. So many things seem to go wrong, but then, looking back in retrospect, I can see where things could have been a lot worse. I think I may do a post at some point detailing all the things that have happened to me, even in just the last few years. You would never believe it. This post is just about my most recent adventure / misadventure.

Yesterday morning, for example, after a long night shift, i drove off the road, and crashed in a ditch.

In Ayrshire, Scotland, where I live, it is snowing, AGAIN. The roads where pretty bad yesterday. I was confident, though, that I would be OK, as I have a 4x4. Well, that theory went straight out the window as I went straight off the road, on a not too kind bend.

As hard as I tried, I could not get out of the ditch, and so realised I need to call for help. Unfortunately I work in a rural area, and of course I had no signal for my mobile phone.

The blizzard continued as I walked along the lonely, cold road, waiting for my phone to get network coverage. Several cars went by me. They saw me, a lone person, walking along a non-descript country road, miles from civilisation, only a short distance from a crashed car...and they drove by me.

If you are reading this blog, and you drove by me, shame on you. We Ayrshire, and we Scottish people are said to take pride in our warmth and kindness. I am shocked and disgusted at you!!!

However, eventually a man stopped, and was kind enough to give me a lift until I got a signal. In casual conversation (my trying to find a reason as to why life is...life) it became apparent that this man had a vested interest in what I had to say.

Yes, dear reader, this man owned the fence that I had crashed into, and that was currently stopping my car from completely rolling over. I said sorry! As if I could have prevented the incident. But we Scottish folk are ever so polite...usually.

Needless to say, I called my partner, who organised rescue for me. He even turned up with coffee and bacon rolls for our wait for the tow truck. He is my Knight in shining armour. We passed the time with a mini snowball fight while the tow man worked away.

My car was hauled from the jaws of death and is now back on the road. Cosmetically, there are a few problems, but the car is alive. So I suppose it could have been worse.

Here are some pics of my awful Wednesday morning trauma. You can eve see my face has been burnt by the ice cold wind. I also look miserable. Because I was.

This was the only sign of civilisation, for miles around. A lovely winter scene, but always better to look at than to be in...
