We went into the city today.
We wanted to get a few things. I bought a pair of sunglasses. A necessity here in Oz. Trying to find a pair that didn't cost the earth was fun.
Eventually got a pair for $20, a bargain, when you think the average price is about $90 here.
We bought some lovely aftershave and a load of sweets and chocolate from a nice wee shop. There is a specialist sweet shop here, selling UK sweets, of course at a marked up price. They even have Irn Bru! You can't even get that in England.
Lunch was lovely too. I had a garlic chicken dish and Sam chose the Porterhouse Steak option. This, along with some bruschetta, was beautiful.
An external lift caught our eye, on the side of a building. "Well", we thought, "Let's take some pics of the city, with a bird's eye view."
The building had a big sign on it saying "Toys R Us". When we entered the foyer, a security man came over and said "Hi".
He then asked if he could do anything for us, and when told no, he asked why we were standing waiting on the lift. The explanation was given that we were going up on the lift to take photographs of the city.
"No joyrides allowed", he said.
Typical me...I got a bit mouthy. I asked why it was a problem, and why he hadn't asked some young women in front of us what they had wanted.
"You don't look like students", he replied.
Turns out, upstairs from "Toys R Us", is a school. In the middle of the city!
So there we are, two grown men, with cameras in hand, and a bag of sweets, heading up to a school. No wonder he stopped us. Did not look good!!!
However, we said sorry and quickly made our excuses, leaving very swiftly.
