We all know there is badness in the world.
Most people acknolwedge it, but carry on with life the best we can. Sometimes it can be hard, sometimes a bit easier.
A couple of days ago, I was watching Oprah. She had a lady, Ashley Markham, and her husband on the show. Ashley's parents had been shot to death in their own home. They had had security CCTV installed in their house, and so what transpired that night could be seen on the video footage.
7 men drove into the property, some entering from the front of the house, some from the back, and shot Melanie and Byrd Billings to death in their own bedroom.
What is the saddest thing for me about this, is that Mr and Mrs Billings adopted children. That night 9 children were in the house. They all have special needs, ranging from ADHD to autism to Down's Syndrome.
These people spent their life doing good. They were shot, it is believed, because Mr Billings was a business man, and the gunmen were looking for money to be in the house.
On Oprah, the idea had been discussed that there may have been a link with the Mexican Mafia. But how terrible. For whatever reason, especially if it was money related, now 9 children have been robbed of their parents.
What is lovely about this story is that Ashley and her husband have now moved into her parent's home, and is caring for her adoptive siblings. She has taken on the role of mother and care-giver, as well as keeping on a full time job. They have a nanny as well, and her mother's best friend has moved in to give much needed assistance.
Now the world has two less people in it, doing good.
Then, today, I saw on a social networking site, a video campaigning against speeding. It is truly heartbreaking, that so many lose their lives because someone decided to drive faster than they know they should have.
I have included this video here. Please watch it and pass on it's message.
With all this badness in the world, I hope I personally can do a little good. I would like to do more. I think we all could do a little more. Show someone kindness today, and know you have done some good in the world. If you are at the drive through restaurant, try paying the bill for the person behind you. Try seeing that friend or neighbour you haven't seen for a while and take them out for a meal. Ask how people are, and really listen to what they have to say. Do something a bit special.
There has been a lot of talk in recent years about saving our world, in terms of the environment and global warming. I think we should try and save the world in terms of maintaining and promoting our humanity. We should remember and celebrate we are all members of a very big family, the human race. I know it is easy to say these things, but prove to yourself it isn't impossible to do. Go out and show someone kindness. Be generous with your time and your spirit.
