To You From Me #1

To You,

I saw you a few days ago, on the bus. I am not usually the kind of person to judge others, but I couldn't help but judge you.

You had two teeth, in the whole of your head. You are probably about 30 years old, but look like you are 50. Your face was sunken in under your eyes, and at your cheeks. You told the mother of your unborn child, that she could not contribute towards naming said child. You waved your hand at her, mumbled at her, swore at her, showed her no respect at all. You didn't show yourself any respect either, with the way you conducted yourself. Your main concern was how your filthy baseball cap sat on your head.

My guess is you haven't behaved respectfully for a long time.

You make me mad. People like you get under my skin. In a society where some couples (those who are gay or have reduced fertility) find it extremely difficult to have children, people like you find it all too easy. Where I live, people need a licence to own a dog. But you can produce offspring without any (much needed) regulation.

Yes, I judged you. I imagine you don't work, and haven't ever worked. I imagine you abuse substances, legal and not so legal. I imagine you also already have kids, kids who don't know you exist.

I hope this is your last child. Sadly, being a realist, I can't imagine that this child will have much quality of life.

I hope society evolves to a place where potential parents are vetted and licenced. There are no perfect parents, but risk can always be reduced. Why risk children's welfare?

I am not a fan of totalitarian systems of government, in general, but You should not be a father.

Evil Twin's Wife said...

The Evil Twin and I tried for years (and used infertility meds) to have both our children - we have 2. I have been pregnant 9 times. I lost the others. It makes me SO MAD when I see crackheads and other deadbeats crank out the babies and we spent a fortune on what should come naturally.
