A couple of days ago, I caught something on TV about Charles Darwin, who is seen by many today as the father of the theory of evolution, following his related work and publishing "On The Origin Of Species".
I didn't see much of the programme, but it led to me having a very interesting discussion with someone recently. This person,, who is lovely and will remain anonymous, believes that evolution is not an accurate account of how life came to be, and continues to progress, on Earth.
This person believes more along the lines of "Creationism", in that God created everything, life, Earth and the whole of existence.
The "Evolution" theory suggests organic life changes over many generations and across many millennia, due to many factors such as some traits being more beneficial than others, mutations, and any other "challenge" faced by organisms such as disease and famine. I have often heard evolution being summed up as "survival of the fittest". Those who are not able to meet the challenges of life are more inclined to die, and less inclined to pass on their "superior" genes.
So who is right?
I was taught at school that evolution was how we, you and I, came to be. That we evolved from less advanced primates. I was taught that there was, at some distant point in time, a BIG BANG, and that this resulted in all the raw elements needed for the Universe we can see around us.
I remember a detailed series of classes, discussing a "primordial soup", with all the necessary chemicals exposed to just the right type of atmosphere, where life sparked into being. Single celled organisms, over time, evolved in to more complex organisms, microbes, which then eventually became insects, fish, reptiles, birds and so on, until all life, around us now, came to be.
Evolution over billions of years is difficult, to say the least, to prove. But scientists have taken fruit flies and tilapia fish, and, under controlled conditions, witnessed and recorded evolution. Evolution has also been observed to occur on small, isolated islands, sometimes at a relatively accelerated rate. So evolution can and does occur. But, is evolution responsible for all the complex and amazing organisms and ecosystems on Earth?
On the other hand, no one has yet proven God exists.
So neither theory can be %100 proven.
I tend to lean towards evolution, because there is scientific evidence to support it, if not to completely prove it.
I also don't believe these two theories are exclusive. I think it is quite possible that God could have created all of existence, and given the spark of life to Earth, thereafter allowing evolution to proceed and mould our world into how it is today.
What do you think? How did life start? Where did we come from? Why are we here?

In other news - my blog must be super popular! I am getting comment spam! LOL. A clear sign of my notoriety and fame! I delete some of them, but really, I can't be bothered. Please ignore any spam you see.
Oh how I wish theses people would invest in real advertising. It would only add to their credibility if they had a real and appropriate ad campaign running. If you are a spammer, please, think it through. Who is really going to click on your link, when your comment is clearly insincere and the grammar is poor, at best?
Ha!
