What don't I use the Internet for?
Yesterday I was speaking to someone, setting the world to rights, as you do, and the Internet came up.
This person told me he used it for emails, and perhaps checking up on NEWS stories. That was all. I was actually quite shocked.
He asked what I used the Internet for, and I said
"Everything!"
What about yourself, what place does the Internet hold in your life, and your heart?
I would say most of my life is lived via the world wide web. Is that sad? It doesn't matter if it is, it's true! I think I may be a typical example of the average person, more or less, when it comes to my employment and enjoyment of the Internet.
Like many other people nowadays, I have email accounts (Yahoo, Hotmail and Google gmail), a Facebook account, a Linkedin account, a YouTube account, a Twitter account, an Ebay account, flickr and so on and so forth. I also maintain my banking account online.
As well as keeping in touch with friends from across the world, in the UK, with such sites as Facebook, I browse classified ads, for example on Craigslist and Gumtree. I buy concert tickets, books, CD's and Blu-ray discs. I shop online for Christmas, Birthday and Anniversary gifts.
When I was studying, the Internet was invaluable for accessing information and research articles. Now I use the Internet to research issues related to my job, helping me keep my knowledge up to date and relevant.
In trying to lose weight and walking a lot, I regularly use Google Maps to work out the distance I have walked, as a measure of how well I have done. Previously, when I was making bad food choices, I would order pizza to be delivered to my door, via the Internet.
I blog and read other people's blogs. I check the weather, read NEWS online, and use the resources available online to read around a subject of interest.
People use the Web for all sorts of activities and hobbies. Education, entertainment (including that which is via the sex industry, so I hear), marketing, job hunting, dating and communication are probably the most common uses. Businesses are managed online, and now most seem more geared towards those who are social media savvy.
Unfortunately, much crime takes place through using the Internet too.
Even the most powerful of tools can be a double-edged sword.
The way people use the Internet nowadays has changed too. They access the Web from their PC, laptop, iPad, iPhone. From work, from home and while commuting between the two.
Now we are seeing "instant journalism" from people who are present when an accident or event occurs. They take photographs and videos and upload and share them with the rest of the world, before the professionals even know something has happened.
With recent figures showing roughly a third of the world's population (that's approximately just over 2 billion people) making use of the Internet, current Internet uses and online behaviours are not staying stagnant, evolving and adapting further as every hour passes.
How do you use the Internet (apart from reading my blog, of course)?

Yep, that sounds about right. Did you mentio movie stuff? We do all our instant celeb research (as we're watching a movie). Other than that, and the fact that I never use LinkdIn or however it is spelled, wee are pretty much clone users.
Cheers,
Casey
Yes, movie trivia, we do that too. IMDB comes in very handy!
I would be at a loss without the Internet!
Thanks Romina, much appreciated. I'll be over for a visit soon xx
