I simply wanted to pay my respects and acknowledge the passing of this beautiful woman, and the impact she had on my life.
I'm genuinely saddened by the reported news of Whitney Houston being found dead in her bath on Saturday. She was apparently discovered under water by staff.
Only 48 years old, it was common knowledge that Whitney had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years. Of course there are now stories all over the internet, suggesting alcohol and certain prescription medications were a factor in the premature death. I feel uncomfortable reading such stories as the truth, the real truth, of such incidents is often very difficult to ascertain and to prove. And too many people are out to make money, exploiting people's deaths.
I loved her! Especially when I was younger, I thought she was a Goddess. For me, Whitney was a true star. Her "Bodyguard" album was the first I ever bought with my own money. 2nd cousin to Dionne Warwick, and God daughter of Aretha Franklin, Whitney was born into all things Gospel and Church, and, it would seem, had little choice but to do great things.
Known as "The Voice", Whitney helped redefine what talent meant. She was a singer, songwriter, actress...but I won't list all her achievements, as you will without a doubt already know just how successful she was. If not, I urge you to Google to your heart's content.
She brought great joy and entertainment to my life, and to the lives of those around me, with a voice, talent and beauty few can match.
Addictions and substance abuse impact so many lives every day, but when the damage it can do is brought to people's awareness by someone such as Whitney, we can only reflect and try to learn from where she might have gone wrong.
With Whitney gone, the world has lost some of it's lustre.
