That's us! We are finally here, in Australia.
A long time coming.
What a trip! This is our second day here, and can't believe it at all. We could easily be in Glasgow, or anywhere in the UK.
We flew from Glasgow, to Heathrow, on to Singapore, Melbourne and finally to Adelaide.
I am glad I am as obsessive as I am. I make a point of being early everywhere we go. When we arrived at Glasgow airport, we noted that our flight was delayed by an hour or more.
We were early enough to be squeezed onto the earlier flight. We managed to make all our connections without a hitch.
The long flight wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We were served food every hour on the hour. There was a screen for each person to watch films, TV and flight plans/ route progression, on demand. There was also radio programmes available. Our leg exercises to avoid DVT were fun too (Okay, they weren't, but glad we did them).
The only difficult thing was not being able to wash fully until we arrived.
Our temporary accommodation is very basic, but it is a roof over our heads, and we know it is only short term. We have had a look at a couple of properties already so hopefully should be in our own place in a week or so.
The people are pleasant, but there is a communication barrier. Our Scottish accents are apparently quite thick (though I don't think so). Sam asked if sandwiches were sold in a local supermarket. The reply was, "Is that a special kind of meat?"
No, I don't get it either. They don't sell any pre-packed foods at all, no sandwiches or salads or anything. A culture shock to us convenience food addicts.
We were also pleasantly surprised at finding a fish and chip shop. They sold many different types of fish and squid. When we asked for butter fish, we were asked if we wanted it breaded, battered or....grilled. Yes, grilled! How fab! More class than you would have in many UK fish and chip shops.
We have achieved a lot in our two days. We have viewed properties, had our visa's evidenced on our passports, activated our bank accounts, made trips around the city and different shopping centres and arranged to meet with my employer tomorrow. I start my new job a week on Monday. Excitement. Apprehension. Fear. I am sure it will all be perfect.
Just need a car...
